Counter-Terror Strategy to be reviewed as UN Counter Terrorism Week continues
Global Counter Terrorism week

On July 1 and 2 as part of the UN Counter Terrorism Week, the global Counter Terrorism strategy will be discussed and reviewed for the ninth time.  This year, it will focus on the increasing exploitation of artificial intelligence, drones, encrypted communications and cryptocurrency by terrorist organisations.

Adopted by all UN Member States in 2006, the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy is the world's only global framework for tackling terrorism. It is built around four key pillars: addressing the conditions conducive to terrorism, preventing and combating terrorist acts, strengthening the capacity of states and the UN system, and ensuring that counter-terrorism measures respect human rights and the rule of law.

Taking place in New York, The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week (26 June - 2 July) brings together governments, international organisations, law enforcement agencies and experts from around the world to strengthen global cooperation against terrorism.

Held under the framework of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the event provides a platform to discuss emerging threats, share best practice and promote coordinated responses to terrorism and violent extremism.
