Jonathan Hall KC's appointment extended

The home secretary has announced the appointment extensions of Jonathan Hall KC as the government’s Independent Reviewer of State Threats Legislation and Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation.

The extensions are for a period of 18 months, meaning he will stay in the roles until November 2026.

The role of independent oversight of state threats legislation was introduced in February 2024 following commencement of the National Security Act 2023. The role serves to assess the fairness, effectiveness and proportionality of UK state threats legislation, and report their findings and recommendations.

Hall is a barrister in independent practice and has been a King’s Counsel since 2014.
