Two detained in anti-terrorism operation in Barcelona

Police have detained two Algerian citizens in a counter terrorism operation in Spain’s second largest city Barcelona.

Spanish radio station Cadena Ser reported on the morning of 14 July that the two suspects were preparing a terror attack, although, as of yet, regional police have declined to comment on this.

Data from the Interior Ministry shows that 16 suspected jihadist fighters have been arrested in Spain from the start of the year until 5 July.

It is just under three years since 16 people were killed and dozens injured after two vehicle attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils, after a van ploughed into crowds in the popular Ramblas tourist area.
