Government supports STOP terrorist online presence campaign

The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NCTSO) has announced that on Friday 15th April, a 36 hour period of extended activity will take place to support the STOP Terrorists’ & Extremists’ Online Presence campaign. The intensive activity will take place in the Counter Terrorism Intranet Referral Unit (CITRU), beginning at 7:00am. According to the NCTSO, the internet and social media provides countless opportunities for those with extreme views to target young or vulnerable individuals. CITRU works to remove terrorist and extremist material, but has maintained that it is communities who defeat terrorism. The group has called for the public to maintain a strong relationship with the police, to ensure important security related information is communicated effectively.
