Dozens killed in explosion at Islamist political rally in Pakistan

At least 45 people have been killed in a suicide bombing at an Islamist party rally in Pakistan.

The bombing took place in Bajaur district, where Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was holding a meeting.

So far, no motive has been established and no group has claimed responsibility.

At least 100 people have also been injured and authorities have warned the death toll could rise further as many people are in a critical condition.

According to the BBC, Maulana Ziaullah, a regional leader of the JUI-F was killed.

The party forms part of the government coalition in parliament and is a major religious political party.

Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement: "The terrorists are enemies of Pakistan, we will eliminate them from the face of existence."
