Teenager arrested for terrorism offences

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for terrorism offences and is in custody.

The teenager was arrested at Stansted Airport by officers from from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command on Monday, 27 June, following a Schedule 7 stop. He was due to board an outbound flight.

The teenager, who was detained under PACE, in is custody at a London police station, while enquiries are ongoing. He was arrested on suspicion of collecting information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism (contrary to section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000), and disseminating terrorist publications (contrary to section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006).

A search has been completed at an east London address as part of the investigation. The Met said that the offences for which he has been arrested are linked to extreme Islamist ideology.
