ISC expected to be re-established imminently
Reports claim that the Intelligence and Security Committee is set to be re-established imminently, with a delayed report on alleged Russian interference in UK politics still to be published.
Opposition parties have accused the government of delay to escape scrutiny, with the committee having not met since before last year’s general election. This is the longest hiatus since the committee was established in 1994.
This means that, eight months after it was completed, the report into alleged Russian interference in the UK remains unpublished.
Opposition parties sent their nominations to Downing Street more than three months ago, but the BBC has reported that Conservative MPs have been left in the dark about whether a final decision had been made about which Tories would be on the committee.
Now, a source close to the process has told the BBC that they are hopeful the committee will be confirmed by Downing Street ‘imminently’. The Prime Minister’s spokesman said the government wanted to get the committee up and running as soon as circumstances allowed.
