14 killed in Prague shooting

14 people have been killed and 25 injured in a shooting at a university in central Prague.

The country's worst ever mass shooting was carried out by a student.

The victims have not been named, though the shooter's father is among them.

Saturday has been declared a national day of mourning and Czech president Petr Pavel has appealed for unity.

The shooting began at around 15:00 local time Thursday at the Faculty of Arts building of Charles University off Jan Palach Square in the centre of the Czech capital.

The attacker opened fire in the corridors and classrooms, apparently at random.

Police have said the attacker is a 24-year-old student of the university, with no criminal record. They added that a huge arsenal of weapons and ammunition was found.

They also said the attacker is suspected of the killing of a young man and his two-month-old daughter who were found dead in a forest on the outskirts of Prague on 15 December.

Local media have named the shooter as David Kozak.
