ISIS losses increase UK terror threat

Security Minister Ben Wallace has warned that as ISIS loses territory in Syria and Iraq, the terror threat in the UK is rising. Following the terrorist attack in Barcelona on 17 August, in which 14 people died, Wallace said that Europe was now under ‘constant attack’ from terror groups and that as extremists become more frequently unable to join IS overseas or have returned from there, the UK terror level will increase. Wallace highlighted the importance of the Prevent programme, which aims to stop people from becoming radicalised, saying that more people needed to understand and engage with its aims. Speaking to the BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Wallace said: "I think the threat is still increasing, partly driven by the fact Isis is collapsing in Syria and people are either unable to get out there to fight for Isis and so they look to do something at home, or also because people have come back and tried to inspire people with their stories and tales of the caliphate. I think those two things mean that the threat is to some extent increasing."
