Two arrested on suspicion of terrorism in Birmingham

A 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The two suspects were detained in Birmingham on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, with officers from West Midlands Police searching an address in the city as part of the investigation while the suspects were being held at a police station.

A police spokesman said: “The arrests, linked to Islamist-related terrorism, were pre-planned and intelligence-led. They are not linked to the London Bridge terror attack and inquiries into this matter were under way prior to the incident on 29 November.”
