A man from Leicester has been sentenced after admitting to disseminating a terrorist publication on the grounds of recklessness, contrary to Section 2(1)(c) of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Zayan Lorgat was arrested in October 2024 at his home address on Grantham Road, Leicester as part of a pre-planned, intelligence led operation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, supported by Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands and Leicestershire Police.

A search of his house found digital devices which when examined revealed that he had shared racist, neo-nazi and antisemitic videos and images on several Telegram chats. There were also graphic videos of Extreme Right Wing terrorist attacks.

The 20-year-old has been sentenced to 27 months’ imprisonment with an extended 12-month extended licence period on his release.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley is the Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East. He said: “Sharing graphic videos of terrorist attacks not only serves to promote the cause of terrorist groups, but it may also inspire others to commit terrorist acts.

“We work tirelessly with our partners to remove extremist content and to bring those who share such content to justice.
