One person killed in attack at Istanbul church

One person has been shot dead in an attack at a Catholic Church in Istanbul.

According to interior minister Ali Yerlikaya Turkish authorities have captured two gunmen who are believed to be tied to Islamic State.

The attack took place around 08:40 GMT at the Italian Santa Maria Catholic Church in Istanbul's Sariyer district, during a service.

Raids have been carried out on more than 30 locations in Istanbul an 47 people have been detained, including those suspected of carrying out the attack.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on Telegram and said it was in response to a call from leaders to target Jews and Christians.
