Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan charged under anti-terror laws

Pakistan's former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been charged under anti-terror laws.

The police's investigation follows Khan's accusations that the police and judiciary detained and tortured a close aide. The aide is being detained on sedition charges.

Khan has been granted pre-arrest bail, with supporters gathered outside his house vowing to "take over" if he was arrested.

Khan is accused of breaching Pakistan's anti-terrorism act for allegedly making threats against state officials.

The ex-crickter has been a vocal critic of the country's army and government since being ousted from power in April in a no-confidence vote. He has toured the country giving speeches causing for fresh elections. He still has support from many voters.

Khan was elected prime minister in 2018, but fell out with the army. He lost his majority in parliament, after a series of defections.
