Airports set to miss scanner deadline

It has been reported that major airports in the UK are set to miss the deadline for installing new security scanners.

The government has told major airports to have the scanners, which would end the 100 ml liquid rule, in places by 1 June.

However, the BBC has reported that Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester are not expecting to have their scanners ready by then.

The new scanners use CT X-ray technology to produce 3D images, meaning that larger quantities of liquids can be taken through security and laptops can be left in bags.

They are already in use at Teesside and London City Airports.
