Prime Minister to unveil plan to tackle home grown extremism

In a speech on 20 July, Prime Minister David Cameron will unveil a five year plan to combat home grown Islamist extremism.

Cameron will vow to tackle “failures of integration”, claiming that the UK must face the “tragic truth” that some people born and raised in the country “don’t really identify with Britain”.

He will argue that the root causes of radicalisation must be addressed, including the way in which non-violent extremists can influence terrorism and violent extremism.

The Prime Minister will go on to address those in danger of being radicalised, saying: "You won't be some valued member of a movement. You are cannon fodder for them… If you are a boy, they will brainwash you, strap bombs to your body and blow you up. If you are a girl, they will enslave and abuse you."

His speech comes after an appearance on the Unites States television network NBC last week, in which he said he wanted to do more to help the US fight Islamic State, but he needed to “take parliament with him”.
