Truffle pickers killed in Syria

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), at least 31 people have been killed by Islamic State, whilst picking truffles.

The attack, east of the city of Hama killed civilians and military personnel.

It has been reported that more than 150 people have been killed picking truffles this year. In March, 15 truffle hunters were killed in central Syria, and in February dozens were killed in the western region of Homs.

The truffle season lasts from February to April and a kilogram of truffle can fetch more than the country's average monthly wage.
