Counter Terrorism Policing calls for security-minded communications in security plans

Counter Terrorism Policing has urged businesses to take a security-minded approach to communication during the mourning period.

They said: "Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Counter Terrorism Policing is working closely with colleagues from police forces and partners across the UK to ensure public safety during this time of national mourning. Extensive, and well established, policing operations and protective security measures are in place."

Counter Terrorism Policing has shared advice on how to take a security-minded approach to communications. They said that businesses will be posting information on opening times or areas and times with restricted access. Whilst this information is useful for customers and visitors, it can also be useful for those considering a malicious act against the site or visitors - including pickpockets or terrorists.

A hostile will be looking for information that can help them select a location or time for an attack. They will be looking for information on protective security measures and vulnerabilities in the protective security.

When posting or creating content, you should consider what needs to be communicated, how can this opportunity be used to deter a hostile and how it can be ensured that information is shared without giving away details that could be useful to a hostile.

Counter Terrorism Policing recommends encouraging everyone at the location to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. They have also produced a toolkit for promoting vigilance.

They said: "We encourage you to make use of these materials across your communications channels to ask people to remain vigilant, trust their instincts and report suspicious activity."
