Plane diverted to Stansted after security scare on board

On Wednesday evening, a Jet2 plane flying from Dalaman, Turkey to Manchester was escorted by RAF aircraft and forced to divert to Stansted after a security scare on board.

Essex Police said they were alerted to a potential threat onboard the aircraft.

The plane was met by Essex Police on landing, who said officers were able to establish there was no threat on board.

Onward travel was organised for passengers.

Jet2 said: "We would like to apologise to everyone onboard for any inconvenience or upset caused by this unforeseen incident."
