14 face trial over beheading of French teacher

14 people, including six children, are set to face trial over the beheading of schoolteacher, Samuel Paty in 2020.

Two adults are facing charges of complicity in a terorist murder and six adults and six minors are facing lesser charges.

The murderer, 18-year-old Abdullakh Anzorov, was shot dead by police at the scene.

Azim Epsirkhanov and Naim Boudaoud, friends of the murderer, face the most serious charge. It is alleged they accompanied him to buy the murder weapon.

Another friend, Yusuf Cinar, faces the charge of membership of a terrorist gang.

Prosecutors also recommended charges of associating with terrorists for three people.

A 15-year-old who allegedly told her parents that the teacher had shown caricatures of the prophet Mohammed in class, will face trial in a children's court, charged with false accusation.

Five other minors face charges of membership of a gang planning violence, suspected of pointing out the victim to the attacker.

The national anti-terrorist judicial authorities will examine the evidence and decide whether to proceed with some or all of the charges.
