Six injured in knife attack in Paris

Six people have been injured, one critically, in a knife attack at Paris's Gare du Nord station.

The attack happened at 6:42 am on Wednesday morning and the attacker was stopped within one minute by two off-duty police officers on their way home from work, according to interior minister Gerald Darmanin.

Darmanin said the attacker was shot three times and taken to hospital.

The attacker has not yet been named and no motive has yet been established.

Darmamin said criminal investigators are overseeing the case for now, not anti-terror police.

Darmamin also praised the police for their "brave and effective" actions, which had saved many lives.

According to reports in Le Monde newspaper, the attacker, a Libyan man, had been threatened with deportation. However French authorities are not currently deporting to Libya, due to political instability.
