Taliban carry out first public execution since return to power

The Taliban have carried out what is believed to be their first public execution since their return to power in Afghanistan.

According to a Taliban spokesperson, a man called Tajmir was hanged at a sports stadium after confessing to murder.

Many Taliban leaders attended the execution in Farah province.

Judges in Afghanistan were recently instructed to fully enforce Sharia law and ordered to impose punishments such as public executions, public amputations and stoning. Though the corresponding crimes and punishments have not yet been defined.
