Dover attack led by right-wing ideology

Counter Terrorism Policing South East have said that the recent attack on an immigration processing centre in Dover was motivated by extreme right-wing terrorist ideology.

During the attack last Sunday, Andrew Leak threw up to three incendiary devices into the facility.

Tim Jacques, senior national co-ordinator for counter terrorism policing, said: "After considering the evidence collected so far, whilst there are strong indications that mental health was likely a factor, I am satisfied that the suspect's actions were primarily driven by an extremist ideology.

"This meets the threshold for a terrorist incident."

Before the attack, Leak was not known to counter-terrorism police or the security services. His now deleted Facebook account contained anti-muslim sentiments.

Police said it was not believed Leak was working with anyone else and there is no suspected threat to the wider public.

The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
