Netherlands to repatriate largest ever group from Syria

The Netherlands is to repatriate 12 women and their children from Kurdish camps in Syria. The group of 40 people is to be the largest ever repatriated by the country.

On their return, the 12 women will be arrested on suspicion of joining jihadi groups and their children will be taken into state care.

The announcement follows a court ruling in May, ordering that the women be repatriated.

According to government figures, around 300 Dutch citizens went to Syria to fight, with 120 still there.

Earlier this year, a women was sentenced to three and a half years in prison by a Dutch court for joining Islamic State.
