Man sentenced for breaching notification requirements

A 38-year-old man from Hartlepool has been sentenced for breaching his terrorist notification requirements, following an investigation led by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

Mohammed Salah Uddin has been sentenced to a 15-month custodial sentence at the Central Criminal Court for five breaches of his Part 4 Notification requirements, one contrary to Section 47, and four contrary to Section 48 of the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008.

He will also serve 12 months on licence.

Uddin was arrested in February 2023 on suspicion of breaching his notification requirements, after failing to notify police of phone numbers and email addresses he was using. He was recalled to prison shortly after arrest.

In July 2023, Uddin was charged with five breaches of his Part 4 Notification requirements, and he pleaded guilty to all offences in court in August.

Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley said: “Those convicted of terrorism offences are subject to strict notification requirements and are monitored very closely by police.”

He added: "We take breaches of any kind very seriously and will not hesitate to prosecute offenders who fail to comply with their conditions.”
