BIFM partnering UK Security Expo in support of advice for FM’s

The Professional Body for Facilities Management (BIFM) will be partnering the UK Security Expo in support of counter terrorism advice for FM’s. This year’s UK Security Expo, which will take place on 29-30 November at Olympia London, will hold a one-day conference titled ‘Counter Terrorism for Buildings and Facilities Management’, after concerns have been raised that FM’s are not given the help they need to evaluate the risks to their buildings and what they should do to deter them. Peter Brogan, Research and Information Manager at BIFM, said: “Security and counter terror is high on the agenda for FMs, and the conference programme at UK Security Expo offers expert advice from an excellent speaker line up. To support this, we will also be producing a new BIFM guidance note for FM’s, produced jointly with UK Security Expo, which will be available in the run up to the event.” Chris Phillips, former Head of NaCTSO and MD, who is chairing the conference, said: “It's a fact that FMs often come into their role without a security background but make important security decisions and purchases. The conference addresses the security measures FM’s need to add to a business to reduce vulnerability to terrorism. “Looking at a variety of sectors, including commercial buildings, religious buildings, visitor attractions and hotels, the conference will increase the understanding of the security and terrorism issues faced by those with responsibility for providing a safe and secure work-place.”
