Lords set to debate Counter-Terrorism and Sentencing Bill

Members of the Lords will discuss the main principles and purpose of the  Counter-Terrorism and Sentencing Bill during its second reading today at around 12.40pm.

The purpose of the bill is to ensure that serious and dangerous terrorist offenders spend longer in custody, reflecting the seriousness of the offences they have committed.

Members will discuss its key areas including the sentencing terrorist offenders, removal or restriction of early release for terrorist prisoners, terrorism prevention and investigation measures and the Prevent strategy. Baroness Williams of Trafford (Conservative), Home Office Minister, will open the debate.

Lord Vaizey of Didcot (Conservative) and the Bishop of Manchester are expected to make their maiden speeches.
