Three charged with acquiring bomb making materials in Denmark

Two men (34 and 36) and a woman (31) from the Holbaek area near Copenhagen were among 14 people arrested in Denmark and Germany last year after a joint operation foiled a terrorist attack.

Denmark's Prosecution Service has charged three people with planning terrorist acts by acquiring weapons and bomb-making materials ”to be used in a terrorist attack in an unknown place in either Denmark or abroad”.

Two men (34 and 36) and a woman (31) from the Holbaek area near Copenhagen were among 14 people arrested in Denmark and Germany last year after a joint operation foiled a terrorist attack.

Prosecutor Lise-Lotte Nilas said:

"The three individuals had acquired several operational weapons and ammunition. In addition, they acquired chemicals and materials that enabled them to manufacture explosives that we believe would be used in a terror attack."

Danish media has reported that the two men are brothers from Syria, while the woman is of Iraqi origin and is married to one of the men.

The three have also been charged with financing terror activities and aiding a person connected to ISIS. They have been in custody since arrest on February 6 last year.

If convicted, prosecutors will push for deportation and for the woman, who is a dual national, to be stripped of her Danish citizenship.

The case will begin at the Holbaek court on August 24.
