15-year-old sentenced for terrorism offences

A 15-year-old boy from Nottingham has been sentenced for seven terrorism offences, following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East (CTP NE).
The boy has been given a 3-Year Community Behaviour Order, and a 3-Year Youth Referral Order which will include a curfew by tag. He cannot be named for legal reasons.
The teenager pleaded guilty in June 2024 to six offences of dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 and one offence of support for a proscribed organisation, contrary to Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
He was arrested on 22 June 2023, by CTP NE officers, supported by Nottinghamshire Police. After his devices were reviewed, it was found he had used social media platforms to post and share violent videos relating to Islamic State. He had also pledged allegiance to ISIS in a chat with others on Telegram.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East said: “It is important that family, friends and organisations are aware of the risks that young people face online, including recognising when someone is being drawn into extremism, and knowing where to turn for help and support.”
“Sharing extremist material and supporting proscribed groups like Islamic State are serious offences that can have far reaching consequences in the real world, as demonstrated in this case.”
