Wallace remains in Defence Secretary post

After speculation that he would be losing his job, No 10 has confirmed that Ben Wallace is staying on as Defence Secretary.

Wallace, MP for the Lancashire constituency of Wyre and Preston North, has been serving as Secretary of State for Defence since 24 July 2019, having previously been Minister of State for Security and Economic Crime from 2016 to 2019. In Boris Johnson’s first appointments upon becoming Prime Minister in July 2019, Wallace took the Defence job from Penny Mordaunt.

Wallace had seemed uncertain about his future heading into discussions with the Prime Minister, having cancelled a trip to an international security conference in Munich.

A number of leading newspapers, including The Telegraph, ran headlines saying that Wallace was a leading minister likely to lose his job.

Meanwhile, Home Secretary Priti Patel has left Downing Street with her title in tact, and Robert Buckland, much in the news lately regarding terrorism offenders serving longer prison sentences, is remaining in his post of Justice Secretary.
