Man jailed for terrorism offences

A man from Cleckheaton has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison after pleading guilty to several terrorism offences.
36-year-old Tygue Crowther was convicted of one count of encouragement of terrorism, contrary to Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006, one count of dissemination of a terrorist publication, contrary to Section 2 of Terrorism Act 2006 and six counts of possession of documents likely to be useful to a terrorist, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Crowther was arrested in June 2024 and officers recovered digital devices from a house search
Analysis of the devices found that Crowther was in possession of terrorist publications and that he had publicly shared extreme right-wing views and nazi propaganda along with instructional material that could assist someone to commit an act of terrorism.
He wanted set up his own right-wing neo-nazi group and used an alias on social media to share racist and antisemitic views, in an attempt to recruit like-minded people.
Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley said: “Viewing and sharing terrorist documents is not a victimless crime and just one document such as Crowther shared could lead to countless others being radicalised.
“The content of these kinds of publications is hateful, divisive, and they encourage others to commit violent attacks.
“Those that seek to divide our communities through sharing extremist material will be identified and brought to justice.”
