PSNI chief constable resigns

Simon Byrne, the chief constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has resigned following a series of recent controversies.
The resignation follows a meeting of the NI Policing Board last Thursday where Byrne was questioned for five hours. The DUP also submitted a motion of no confidence in him.
Last week, a court found that two officers were unlawfully disciplined for an arrest at an event commemorating the troubles.
Also recently, the details of 10,000 police officers were mistakenly made available on the internet. An independent review is due to be carried out into the breaches.
In a statement, Byrne said that it was now time for someone new to lead the "proud and resolute organisation".
