PSNI arrests three men in connection with John Caldwell attempted murder

Police Service of Northern Ireland detectives investigating the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in February have arrested three men under the Terrorism Act.
The men - aged 45, 47 and 58 - were arrested in Newtownabbey, Coalisland and Belfast respectively. All three have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning, and remain in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell was shot several times on 22 February in Omagh, where he had been coaching a youth football team.
He was attacked in front of his young son and left with life-changing injuries after the shooting, which officers have blamed on the New IRA.
Two gunmen dressed in dark clothing approached him as he stood by his car. Several shots were fired before the gunmen fled in a small dark coloured Fiesta vehicle shortly after 8pm. This vehicle was abandoned and set alight on the Racolpa Road, Omagh minutes after the shooting.
He spent weeks in a critical but stable condition at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry/Londonderry.
