NI man sentenced for terror offences
A 45-year-old man has been sentenced, after previously pleading guilty to terrorism-related offences.
Appearing before Belfast Crown Court, Gabriel Meehan was sentenced to 30 months in prison and is due to serve a minimum of two thirds of this sentence.
The sentence is in relation to an attack at Enniskillen Police Station, which was claimed by the Continuity IRA, a series of security alerts between 13 March and 19 March 2021, and the discovery of an improvised firearm, which was located in the Lough Shore Path area of Enniskillen on 17 March.
Detective Superintendent Griffin, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Terrorism Investigation Unit, said: “Today’s outcome follows a thorough investigation by detectives investigating four reports of bomb threats made via media outlets in 2021.
“Officers from our Terrorism Investigation Unit remain totally committed to investigating and disrupting terrorist activity. Our aim will always be to protect communities and keep people safe from harm, and we will continue, with your support, to tackle those intent on bringing weapons and violence to our doorstep."
