Adelaide: Man to stand trial on terrorism charges

An Adelaide man has been ordered to stand trial after pleading not guilty to 23 charges.

Artem Vasilyev pleaded not guilty to charges including acts to prepare or plan a terrorist act, possessing firearms without a licence and possessing unregistered firearms.

It is alleged Vasilyev imported, manufactured and possessed weapons, explosive substances and documents "in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act" between July 2020, and September 2021.

His case is the second federal terrorism matter to be heard in South Australia.

Before being charged, Vasilyev applied for an Australian passport, which police said was for the purpose of leaving the country.

The court heard that the accused has an above-average knowledge of cyber and physical operational security.

Vasilyez has been remanded in custody and will return to court in May.
