A woman from Oxford has been sentenced to four and a half years imprisonment for two counts of dissemination of a terrorist publication, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Roma Iqbal will then serve a year on extended license. She was also given five-year Serious Crime Prevention Order and will be subject to a notification order for a period of 15 years.
Iqbal shared publications online that has Islamist extremist content on 10 December 2021 and was arrested on 20 December 2021. The 23-year-old was charged in February 2023.
Detective chief superintendent Olly Wright, head of Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), said: “Iqbal will now spend time in prison as a result of sharing extremist publications online.
“This was another painstaking investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing, and our people continue to work tirelessly to keep communities safe from terrorism. However, we cannot do this on our own and thank the public for their continued support by reporting concerns to us."
