Texas navy base shooting is ‘terrorism-related’

The FBI has said that the shooting at a Texas military base on 21 May that wounded a sailor and left the gunman dead is being investigated as ‘terrorism-related’.

The attacker attempted to speed through a gate at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in a vehicle, but a barrier prevented him from doing so. US officials say that this prevented the shooting, before the man then got out of the car and opened fire, striking and wounding a navy sailor who is a member of the security force at the base.

The shooter was killed by security personnel.

FBI special agent Leah Greeves said at a news conference that the law enforcement agency is investigating the shooting as ‘terrorism-related’, and that investigators were working to determine whether a second person of interest was at large in the community. However, she did not discuss what led investigators to believe the shooting is related to terrorism.
