British man held in Kenya 'not linked to terror attack'

A British man has been detained in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, but is not being linked to a recent terror attack there, the UK Foreign Office confirms.

It said it was "making contact to offer standard consular assistance".

It comes after the Daily Mail reported a man with bruising to his face had been stopped by passport officials at Jomo Kenyatta Airport on Monday.

Kenya has begun three days of mourning after the four-day siege by Islamist militants on Westgate shopping centre.

Officials say 72 people were killed in the attack, including six security personnel and five militants.

However, British High Commissioner to Kenya Dr Christian Turner said of the British national who had been detained: "Our understanding at this stage is that he is not connected to the recent terrorist incident."
