Anti-terrorism measures at Edinburgh Festival

High security barriers are being installed in Edinburgh to stop terrorists driving vehicles into pedestrians. The measure is being installed temporarily ahead of the Edinburgh International Festive and Fringe. A review of security at events such as the festival has taken place following the London and Manchester attacks. Police have said that although there is no specific evidence to suggest the events would be targeted, the UK terrorism threat is still ’severe’. The UK government will pay for the National Barrier Asset (NBA) system, which Police Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council submitted a request for. The NBA has been used extensively in the UK this year at other major events including Wimbledon and the European Cup Final in Cardiff.
