Barcelona terrorists planned to bomb major monuments

Barcelona’s famous Sagrada Familia church and other famous monuments were bombing targets of the terrorist cell group behind the city’s attack.

A Spanish court has jailed Mohamed Houli Chemlal and Driss Oukabir, two of the terrorists, for membership of a terrorist organisation, murder and possession of explosives.

Chemlal told the court that the group had been preparing for ‘an attack of larger dimensions’ after planning for more than two months. The 21-year-old was injured during the explosion at a house in the town of Alcanar, in which the attacks leader is thought to have died.

The suspect informed the court that the terrorist cell had been building bombs in the house, but their plans were foiled when an explosion tore through the property.

The two other surviving attackers, Salh El Karib and Mohamed Aalla, have been remanded in police custody and released on certain conditions respectively.
