Finsbury Park attack suspect presumably ‘self-radicalised’

The Finsbury Park terrorist attack suspect is believed to have been self-radicalised, it has been reported. After a van was driven into Muslims near a mosque on Seven Sisters Road, counter-terror detectives continue to investigate the attack and establish a motive for the attack. The suspect, 47 year old Darren Osborne, is being questioned. Advice has been given to police from lawyers from the Crown Prosecution Service’s counter-terrorism division about the scope of the investigation and what charges should be contemplated. Detectives are not looking for anyone else over the attack at this stage. The suspect is believed to have acted independently rather than as part of a group. Although some witnesses have claimed that there were other people in the van, no evidence has been found to support this. Evidence signifies that the attack was premeditated rather than spontaneous. Investigators are looking at what was needed for the attack as they decide what charges the attacker may be given. The suspect’s mental health is also under investigation.
