Fallon meets with defence counterparts to discuss counter-ISIL strategy

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has met with his counterparts in Paris to outline details regarding the counter-Daesh campaign. The meeting was attended by US secretary of defence Ash Carter, French minister of defence Jean-Yves Le Drian and representatives from Australia, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. The meeting covered the coalition effort to tackle ISIL and best practice for the campaign moving forwards, including exploring further options with regard to intensifying the military operations in Iraq and Syria. Fallon said: “We have made strong progress in recent weeks. Now the campaign is moving into a new phase where we aim to systematically dismantle ISIL’s structure and capabilities. “That means striking harder at the head of the snake, with an increased focus on infrastructure, lines of communication and supply routes.”
