London Bridge attack heroes recognised

Three police officers and five members of the public who confronted the attackers on London Bridge last year are to be included on this year's Civilian Gallantry List. In total, 20 people have been approved by the Queen for awards to recognise their ‘outstanding bravery’. Among that number, Ignacio Echeverria and Kirsty Boden will receive the award having been among the eight victims of the terror attack in London Bridge and Borough Market on 3 June last year. Echeverria has also been posthumously awarded the George Medal after he confronted the knife-wielding terrorists with only his skateboard. Boden, a nurse who was killed whilst attempting to save another’s life, has been recognised, with her family emphasising that they are ‘very proud’ of her Commendation for Bravery. British Transport Police officers Wayne Marques and Leon McLeod and Met PC Charlie Guenigault have also been recognised. Published annually, the Civilian Gallantry List names people who have received The George Medal, The Queen's Gallantry Medal and The Queen's Commendation for Bravery.
