Police raid on suspects in Saint Denis

Two dead and seven arrested after armed police raided a flat in a northern district of Paris in an operation linked to the terrorist attacks on 13 November.

Reports say that the focus of the raid is Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged organiser of the Islamic State-claimed attacks that killed 129 people. Abaaoud, a 27-year-old Belgian of Moroccan origin, had been thought to have organised Friday's attacks from Syria, but is now believed to have been one of those in the St Denis apartment.

Gunfire and explosions could be heard in the early hours of the morning, 04:20 local time, with a prosecutor claiming a female suspect blew herself up with a suicide vest. It has also been reported that another man died within the apartment. Several police officers were injured and a police dog killed according to French AP news agency.

The site of the latest attack in Saint Denis is less than 2km from the Stade de France national stadium where three suicide bombers blew themselves up on 13 November.

French government spokesman confirms police raid at Saint Denis is over.
