GCHQ officially joins twitter

The UK Government Communications Headquarters (HCHQ) has officially joined Twitter, with its first tweet reading ‘Hello, world’. It marks the first time a UK based intelligence agency has begun sharing news, updates and opinions on the social media site and comes as part of plans fro the GCHQ to become more accessible to the public. The Agency will be using the platform to help the public understand more about its work, talking about the GCHQ’s history, mission outcomes, technology and innovation. It will also act as a way of signposting events, publications, news, blogs, and opinion pieces, as well as advertising job opportunities. Twitter users can follow @GCHQ to keep up to date with its latest posts. Andrew Pike, director of communications at GCHQ, said: "In joining social media GCHQ can use its own voice to talk directly about the important work we do in keeping Britain safe."
