Former home secretary warns of continued terror threat

John Reid warns not to be complacent despite efforts to preserve safety and security over the past decade

Former home secretary John Reid has stated that the UK faces a continued terror threat and that "we should not be blinded by the time passed since 9/11."

The 9/11 attacks killed nearly 3,000 people, including 67 British lives. The vast majority of the dead were civilians, including nationals of over 70 countries.

Lord Reid said: "Throughout the last decade our safety and security has not been preserved easily; it has often involved difficult, and sometimes controversial measures; above all, it has been maintained by the commitment of all those who have risked - and sometimes sacrificed - their lives to preserve safety and security for all of us."

" The passage of time since 9/11 and our own 7/7 should not blind us to the continuing threat from terrorism. We would be wise to recognise that despite the relative success of these efforts over the past decade, there is absolutely no room for complacency."
