Counter-Terrorism Taskforce issues terror alert warning in Ethiopia

The National Intelligence and Security Service and Federal Police Joint Counter-terrorism Taskforce says it has reliable evidence indicating the terrorist Alshbaab and terror groups assisted by the Eritrean regime are preparing to carry out a terror attack in various parts of Ethiopia.

The Taskforce called up on the public and security forces to be alert and cooperate with police and security forces.

The Taskforce disclosed that it has got reliable evidence that there is preparation for terror attack in Addis Ababa and other regional towns in two directions.

The statement from the Taskforce said the plotters of the terror preparation are the terrorist group Alshabaab and other terrorists deployed by the Eritrean regime. The terrorists aim at destabilizing the country and hindering its development progress, it said.

The Taskforce called upon the public and all security forces to cooperate and remain watchful in the effort being undertaken to foil the terror attack before it materializes.

It urged citizens working in public recreation areas to inform police and security forces in case of any unusual situations and individual activities subject to suspicion.

Organizations and individuals who give rental services of houses, rooms and cars should also make proper registration of their clients’ documents, the statement said.

Regarding the foiled terror attack on 13 October 2013 in Bole Sub city, the Taskforce said it has found evidences that the thwarted terror attack targeted football fans watching the match between Ethiopia and Nigeria. It said the Taskforce has continued further investigation on the issue.

According to the Taskforce, the two would-be bombers who died in their foiled terror attack on 13 October 2013 were Somali citizens.
