PM visits Olympic air security personnel

Prime Minister David Cameron has thanked RAF and Royal Navy personnel at RAF Northolt in Greater London for their role in delivering a safe Olympic games.

Northolt currently hosts four RAF Typhoon fighter jets, and Cameron met the RAF pilots and ground crew as well as the Royal Navy personnel who are operating radar-equipped Sea King Airborne Surveillance and Control helicopters.

"We all want to have a safe Olympics and troops up and down the country are playing a vital role," said Cameron.

"Last week I met those working on HMS Ocean on the Thames; today I wanted to come and express my appreciation for the hard work by all those at RAF Northolt who are helping to keep the skies across the country safe" he said.

Squadron Leader Paul 'Boomer' Ward, the Typhoon detachment commander, said the PM was very interested in how RAF Typhoons were "ready to scramble as part of our multi-layered air security plan to provide a safe and secure games for everyone to enjoy."
